Blog number TWO: Tail End of a Cold Front

MANILA, Philippines — A tail-end of a cold front affecting Northern and Central Luzon is causing rain in parts of the country, including Metro Manila, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Monday.
Every channel has its own news show, and every news show has its own weather forecast segment. During rainy seasons, we can always hear the term cold front and its tail end especially when a Low Pressure Area (LPA) or  typhoon has been monitored. But, have ever asked yourself "What is a tail end of a cold front and how it is associated with all this rain?"?

Our country is found near the equatorial region where we encounter two different seasons, the wet and dry seasons. For this reason, different factors are always intervening our weather patterns causing different weather phenomena.

Through reading clippings, articles and even journals and publications, I learned that a cold front  is a meteorological word that is used to describe the movement of a cooler air mass into an area of warmer air. The air with greater density moves under the less dense warmer air, lifting it, which can cause a line of showers and thunderstorms, or a squall line to form when there is sufficient moisture. This upward motion causes lowered pressure along the cold front. On weather maps, the surface position of the cold front is marked with the symbol of a blue line of triangles/spikes pointing in the direction of its movement. Cold fronts can also move up to twice as fast as warm fronts. The tail end of cold front as defined in the dictionary is the later portion of an advancing or leading edge of a steep cold wedge of air characterized by cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds with frequent precipitation in the form of heavy shower.

Because of curiosity, I want to know more about this topic, especially it’s effects, causes, advantages and disadvantages as well. I also want to know more about how it is formed, how if affects weather patterns and the like. I would like to research on its possible causes, and the laws and principles governing it.

I appreciate the fact that different agencies and organizations found a way of informing everyone about this thing and they are posting precautions about it. I also appreciate that everyone of us are aware of this and we are all willing to learn more about it.

I can apply my learning and insights about these things in letting others know and understand what I have understand through the multiple researches I have done. Also, having this knowledge will help us understand how these things occur.
