Blog number THREE: Monsoon Rains

Weather Forecasts are important for all of us. It informs us everything about the weather not only for the day but also for the succeeding days. But, do all of the terms the weather forecasters used are familiar or do you know anything about it?
Abrupt rains. Thunderstorms. Typhoons. Cyclones. Have you ever wondered how these things are formed? Or how can they affect us? Their advantages and disadvantages?

As a student, I have learned about these things, but only a few about them. So to expand my knowledge about these things, I often read some periodicals, some magazine, publications and I even surf the net just to know more about these. As I read, I learned that monsoon is a system of winds in which the direction of the winds is reversed between the summer and the winter season. According to the traditional thermal theory of monsoon they are a result of the differential heating of land masses and the oceans. In summer the land area gets heated more than the sea and hence low pressure develops over the interior parts of the land masses. Thus in summer season winds blow from sea to the land. During winter season a high pressure is formed over the continents as the temperature there is very low. On the other hand the pressure over the oceans is comparatively lower and the winds start blowing from land to the sea. This forms the monsoon system. Monsoon rains are the rains causes by monsoons. The monsoons, which help balance global temperatures and sustain life on earth, affect a vast area of the globe - from Africa across Asia to the Pacific; northern China and the Himalayas to north Australia; and even Mexico and parts of Central America - directly influencing the lives of over half the world's population.South Asia has two kinds of monsoon; the Northeast monsoon (amihan) and the Southwest monsoon(habagat).

Since Monsoon rains and Monsoon is always cited especially during weather forecasts, this pushes me to want to know more about monsoon rains, its relation to monsoon, its advantages and disadvantages and how it can affect us. I would like to research more on the things associated with monsoons.

I appreciate the fact that almost everyone is aware of these kinds of things. For this, we can prepare for such emergencies and calamities. I also appreciate the fact that our government always finds a way to reach everyone and educate them with knowledge about monsoon and the like.

I can apply my insights and learning about monsoon in maintaining the atmosphere of being safe in our environment. Also, we can be prepared for unwanted events and ready ourselves so if such thing occurs, we know what to do next.
