"MANILA, Philippines – The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is
causing rains in most parts of Metro Manila and several regions in Luzon and
Visayas, weather bureau PAGASA said Friday. "
We, Filipinos are fond of watching news, and we can always hear his kind of
news. But, have you pondered why this news is always flashed and how essential
it is for everyone of us?
Philippines
is a tropical country and is located near the equator. Since we are near the
equator, certain factors are always affecting our weather patterns. One of
these factors is the Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ.
I learned that Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ for short, is known by
sailors as doldrums because of erratic weather patterns with stagnant calms and
violent thunderstorms. It is the area encircling the Earth near the equator where
winds originating from the Northern and Southern Hemisphere meet or came
together. It appears as bands of clouds, usually thunderstorms. It drastically affects
rainfall in many equatorial regions, resulting in the wet and dry seasons
rather than cold and warm. It can bring floods and/or droughts.
Since I always encounter this news, I want to know more about this topic,
especially it’s effects, causes, advantages and disadvantages as well. I also
want to know more about how it is formed, how if affects weather patterns and
the like. Because of my curiosity, I would like to research on the different
weather and wind patterns governed by ITCZ and the different effects of ITCZ
depending on its location.
I appreciate the fact that we are all informed about the weather
disturbances. I also appreciate the fact that with ITCZ as our indicator, we
are aware of the events especially those related to our weather.
I can apply my learning and insights in understanding the different weather
patterns to be prepared for abrupt calamities or disasters. Also, my knowledge
about ITCZ can help me understand everything related to it. By doing this blog
about my learning and insights, it can help me share every piece of my
knowledge about a certain topic like this one.
